Quality - Uniform Deposits
|
A great benefit of electroless nickel is the uniform thickness of this deposit.
- 5-10% variation in thickness regardless of part geometry.
- Ideal for parts with blind holes where electrolytic plating would provide minimal coverage.
- For example a 2 inch long tube, with a 1/4" opening would have a maximum of 10 micro inches of plating at the bottom with electrolytic nickel. The same part processed with electroless nickel would have 80 micro inches of nickel in the same location. (Based on plating to a thickness of 90-100 micro inches on the outside diameter.)
- As a result the electroless nickel deposits can have a lower thickness requirement than a comparable electro-deposited nickel because of the uniformity of the deposit.
- Electroless nickel plating is ideal for small diameter holes or tubes.
