Problems with Shiny and Dull Parts
Appearance variation is a common complaint for electroless nickel parts. What causes this problem?
-
Excessively bright deposits are obtained in new baths. A new bath is not always available and baths as they age produce less bright deposits. This variation can be controlled by the operating parameters of the chemistry to minimize the variation in appearance.
-
Dull parts can be produced when temperature drops or exceeds the optimal range as well.
-
Too bright a deposit can be brittle and can be stressed by the additives that are required to make the deposit bright.
-
Imbalance in the chemistry can cause these problems, too.
